Pindan Honoured for Carnarvon College Expansion

Integrated property and construction group Pindan has collected an award for its work expanding and upgrading Carnarvon Community College.

The $19.4 million project was honoured on Saturday night as the Best Education Building ($10-$20m) as part of the 2020 Master Builders Association Building Excellence Awards for the Midwest Region held at Geraldton Grammar School.

Pindan’s work on Stage 3 of the project included constructing a raft of new buildings and refurbishing existing ones on the Marmion St site.

“We built specialist classrooms for science, IT, home economics, materials technology, and performing arts, and a sports hall, as well as nine new general classrooms for secondary students,” said Tony Gerber, Executive Director Pindan Group.

Existing buildings were also refurbished to create a new secondary administration building and to house special programs such as those delivered by the Clontarf Foundation for young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men and the Shooting Stars netball program.

A new sports oval, hard courts and car park were also part of the project.

The Carnarvon Community College Stage 3 works were designed by EIW Architects, project managed by the Department of Finance for the Department of Education and built by Pindan ahead of time and under budget, so it was a fantastic partnership and result for all involved. This important community project also focused on using local suppliers, which was a tremendous boost for the region.

The redevelopment of the College, which is built for cyclonic conditions, now brings 459 primary and secondary students, from kindergarten to Year 12, together for the first time – one of the very few schools in the state to combine all student years.

Pindan has a proud history of working to deliver new education facilities to the WA community, including in regional areas.

Earlier this year, its work at Cape Naturalist College in Vasse saw it secure the award for Best Education Building in the $20-50 million category at the South West Master Builders Building Excellence Awards.
