Pindan Wins MBA Excellence Award for Civic Centre Extension

WA property and construction company, Pindan, has won a coveted MBA Excellence in Construction award for its work on the Wanneroo Civic Centre Extension.

The top honour, in the Best Office Building ($10 to $20m category), follows extensive works to establish a two-storey office building with roof terrace and basement car park for the City of Wanneroo.

Designed by Bollig Design Group Pty Ltd, the $17.9 million extension was linked to the existing civic office facilities and completed in August 2017.

Spokesperson for Pindan, Director of Constructions Mark Thompson, said the building was designed to allow for future expansion, including up to three more floors.

“We are very proud of this win as it celebrates our outstanding reputation for managing and building complex projects,” he said.

Pindan has a great depth of experience in commercial office developments over the complete range of finishes, with excellent achievements in high-end and exclusive projects, and it is an honour to be recognised by the MBA for our work on the Wanneroo Civic Centre Extension

Mr Thompson said the award-winning project was completed four weeks ahead of schedule – a fantastic achievement given the site included the existing council chambers and offices, which remained operational during the 15-month project, and was located opposite a primary school.

He added that the external facade consisted of a multi-colour, glass curtain walling system, incorporating approximately 1,000 sunshade elements and aluminium cladding, which was designed and constructed by Pindan.

“In consultation with the Architect and relevant subcontractors, Pindan resolved the construction method and detailing of this intricate design element, including coordinating the aluminum windows with the integration of sun shades,” he said.

“Sample frames and off-site prototypes were developed and once the system was approved, the installation was fast-tracked on site to allow internal finishes to start, without suffering the effects of weather.

“As the façade areas were not scaffolded out, the sunshades also had to be installed by mobile plant.”

Other works included adding an open staircase, feature artwork and skylight to the internal lobby area of the civic centre and construction of an open deck area with landscaping on the upper floor.

Announced on 21 July, the MBA Excellence in Construction Awards recognise craftsmanship, commitment to building excellence and upholding the highest professional standard in Western Australia.
