New look Esperance hospital
Esperance residents requiring non-urgent surgery will soon no longer have to travel to Kalgoorlie-Boulder, with the new operating theatre and day surgery area at Esperance Health Campus set to reopen next month.
Construction of the new area of the surgical department is nearing completion, with WA Country Health Service Goldfields staff undertaking the clinical cleaning, testing and fit-out of the new operating theatre and day surgery areas.
Works will continue on the complete refurbishment of the existing theatre, which will also be upgraded as a minor operating theatre and endoscopy suite, with the entire expanded surgical services area expected to be operational in mid-2016.
Patients have had to travel to Kalgoorlie Health Campus for elective surgeries since November last year while the works, which are part of a $31.3 million redevelopment of the hospital, took place.
The hospital’s emergency department was officially reopened in December last year, increasing capacity from four treatment areas to 12, with five monitored treatment bays.
The work will be finished early next year.
