Mundaring recreation centre starting to take shape
Construction of the Mundaring recreation centre reached a milestone last week, with the building’s steel frame in place at the Weir Road site.
Site works began in November 2016 after Pindan secured the tender for the project in 2015.
Councillors unanimously voted on Tuesday to call the centre Mundaring Arena, but the opportunity to sell the naming rights and generate future income for the Shire remains open.
Shire President David Lavell said the installation of the steel frame marked exciting progress in the centre’s construction.
“The centre has been greatly anticipated by the community and once completed will meet growing local demand for high-quality sports facilities in the Hills area.”
Comprising several indoor courts in a 4000sq m area, the new centre will cater for a variety of sports, including basketball, netball, volleyball, hockey, badminton and soccer.
The $10.1 million state-of-the-art centre is due for completion towards the end of this year.
