Carmen Gallagher, Acting Principal, Eastern Goldfields Education Support Centre and Ian Masarei, Principal, Kalgoorlie - Boulder Community High School
Pindan took home the
Best Regional Project and the Best Education Building ($20m-$50m) categories on Saturday night for a three-phase construction upgrade at
Kalgoorlie Boulder Community College.
The $41m project for client BMW/Department of Education included the addition of three new teaching blocks, a cafeteria, playing court shade structure, new visual arts and education support hub buildings and renovation of the existing design & technology building.
New parking facilities, extensive hard and soft landscaping and perimeter security fencing were also installed.
Pindan’s Construction Manager, Mr Gavin Bell, said the impressive project was the result of excellent communication between Pindan, designers T&Z Architects and the client.
"We had to limit noise and vibrations during school hours so we did not interrupt staff and students. The logistics of delivering unique materials, such as the custom orb ceilings, to the remote location also required careful planning," he said.
Mr Bell said a great deal of foresight and organisation was required to ensure the construction programmed remained on track.
"However, all parties worked together to overcome any difficulties and facilitate the build. We think the results speak for themselves."
The $41m project was completed in January 2018 and Principal Ian Masarei said it had made a huge difference to both students and staff.
“Not only has it enabled our staff to better deliver quality teaching and learning to our students, the quality and finish of the build has assisted in engendering whole school pride, “ he said.
Mr Masarei also said Pindan were to be commended on their cooperative efforts.
The MBA Excellence in Construction Awards recognise craftsmanship, commitment to building excellence and upholding the highest professional standard in Western Australia.
The winners were announced in Kalgoorlie on 1 September.
