The old Newman town mess and rail quarters were demolished in 2011 to make way for a new retail facility, as part of the town’s revitalization plan.

The Newman town centre retail development includes 6,162 m2 of retail space including a supermarket, café and general retail spaces and parking for 150 vehicles. The development is a landmark building complimenting The shire of East Pilbara’s effort to facilitate the development of a vibrant regional hub accommodating a permanent population of up to 15,000 people. Building works shall comprise structural works, on grade slabs, internal stairs ramps and ladders, Façade support and framing systems, Sunscreen frame and support systems, internal wall and sheet linings, floor and wall tiling, cabinetry, window glazing and treatments, Electrical, Communications including CCTV, MATV, Mechanical Services, including Building Management control systems.
