OUR TOP FRINGE FESTIVAL PICKS FOR SUBI RESIDENTS

We love the Fringe World Festival in Perth and with a huge range of Fringe acts in and around Subi, there is no shortage of a cultural fix this Summer, right in our neighbourhood.

Whether it is comedy, cabaret, theatre or music that takes your fancy, we have listed our top 5 picks for Fringe Festival Perth in and around Subiaco.

1. SNACKS – A musical tasting plate

The World Premiere of this musical theatre for all ages sounds like fun! It is running from February 22nd – February 24th at the Subiaco Arts Centre. Local Perth-based theatre company Ludicrous Displays bring a series of short form musicals featuring three separate shows, nine colourful characters and a range of original music.

2. Lady Songs

Hosted at the gorgeous St Andrew’s Church on Barker Road, this spectacular show celebrates the evolution of the female songwriter. Music from Janis Joplin, Stevie Knicks, Whitney Houston, Alanis Morrissette and Beyonce feature.

It is running on the 29th and 30th January.

3. Akolokol Dastan Gesa

This FREE show is being hosted at The Backlot Perth, in nearby West Perth on the 13th February.

Akolkol Dastan Gesa means "story" in Dinka, Dari and Arabic and these short film works were made by young people from an Intensive English Centre in collaboration with artists Poppy van Oorde-Grainger, Scott "Optamus" Griffiths and David Vincent Smith.

4. Matt Hale’s Mindfoolness

Comedy meets hypnotism! Matt’s shows sold out at Fringe World 2017 and 2016 and with a range of venues not far from Subi, we think this is a show worth adding to your list.

You can find Matt’s show at Elizabeth Quay, in the Perth CBD or a short hop, skip and a jump over in Scarborough across a range of dates during Fringe month.

5. Hot Brown Honey

Finally, a visit to Fringe would not be the same without heading to one of the coolest venues around, The Pleasure Garden, in nearby Northbridge.

For cabaret, Hot Brown Honey is our pick of the bunch here. It is running from the 8th – 25th February, so there is plenty of opportunity to get along.

Hot Brown Honey is described as unapologetically fierce, defiantly shattering preconceptions in an explosion of colour, culture and controversy.

Subiaco has an extensive public transport network. With access to the Perth- Fremantle train line from multiple stations and nine bus routes through to the city, there is no excuse not to head to a show!
